The Bachelor

I mentioned this today on my show about the TV show The Bachelor.  I don't know how many seasons this show has been running but for some reason I keep watching.  I didn't watch the first season and only saw the last episode of the second season but when Andrew Firestone was the bachelor I got hooked and have been hooked ever since.  Every time they promo the show Chris Harrison (the host) says "It's the MOST DRAMATIC ROSE CEREMONY EVER!!"  Well, for once it almost lived up to the hype on Monday night.  It was the finale and the bachelor had to choose between the last two women, both of which had professed their love to him earlier in the show.  The first girl to show up at the rose ceremony is always the one he sends home and I correctly predicted which one it would be.  However, when the second girl showed up I expected the normal happy outcome.  That didn't happen.  Halfway through his speech to her he walked away to gather himself, came back and told her he was sending her home, too, and wasn't going to choose either one.  I did not see that coming at all!  Then last night, they had "The Bachelor: After the Final Rose" where the last two girls come back and the bachelor has to face them.  Normally, there's one happy girl.  This time, of course, both of them were looking for answers.  I think the entire television audience was looking for answers and didn't get any.  And we witnessed the most awkward conversation I think I've ever seen.  It was painful to watch.  The show also brought out the only two couples from the series who have stayed together.  It made the outcome of this season look that much worse.  Funny enough, there will be another edition of the show in the spring.  Actually, I shouldn't be surprised since the writers' strike shows no end in sight and we'll be inundated with reality TV this winter.
I keep asking myself why I continue to watch the show but I can't stop!!  I have yet to figure out why people go on this show honestly thinking they're going to find the love of their life while they're followed around with cameras 24/7 and all the dates are fabricated to make them look like the most romantic experiences ever.  They eventually have to come back down to earth and attempt to make the relationship work in the real world.  That would explain the terrible track record of these 'couples'.  But if these people insist on making fools of themselves I guess we're obligated to watch, huh?

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow and a good weekend!  Don't eat too much!  I hope you can enjoy the holiday with family and friends!!  If you have to drive anywhere this weekend please be careful.
