Low Tech Fixes for Hi Tech Gadgets

I am not technically inclined at all.  I mean at all.  If I can’t fix my computer with CTRL-ALT-DEL I’m in trouble.  My 12 year old niece had to program my mp3 player for me.  I can’t add any more music until I go up to Cleveland and see her again!  So when I saw an article on some easy fixes on some hi-tech gadgets I was all about it!  If you want to see the complete rundown click here http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/19/technology/personaltech/19basics.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1.  Since we’re all trying to save money nowadays maybe these hints will help keep your gadgets running longer.

Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman

I’ve talked about Joaquin Phoenix ‘retiring’ from acting and turning his attention to a career in rap.  I couldn’t figure out what on earth he was doing and then I started hearing that it was all a hoax.  He’s insisting it’s not a hoax and that he’s serious in becoming a rapper.  Well, he was on David Letterman’s show this week and it was down right bizarre!  Now I’m convinced this is all a joke but, if you watch the entire interview, Dave seems pretty amused at first but by the end he seems a bit annoyed.  Check it out by clicking here http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/02/joaquin-phoenix.html.  Joaquin seems so totally bewildered about how to handle himself that the only answer can be that he’s kidding around.  He’s been around enough to know how to do an interview on late night TV and how to introduce a movie clip.  But see for yourself and then tell me what you think.

Saved Koala

You’ve probably heard about the horrible fires in Australia.  I heard this morning that the death toll is close to 200.  The firefighters are working hard to put out the fires and in one instance they found a koala bear that needed a drink.  The fire fighters recorded the encounter.  Check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5qNsJgZeoA.

Which Muppet Are You?

I grew up watching the Muppets.  I loved that show!  My favorite muppets were Animal (of course!), Beeker and the Swedish Chef.  The Swedish Chef ALWAYS made me laugh!  So when I found this quiz I had to take it and find out which muppet I was.  Apparently, I’m Kermit.  Click here http://www.quizilla.com/quizzes/102732/what-muppet-are-you and find out which muppet you are!  It’s totally un-scientific but fun!

Hero Pilot

We’ve all heard the story of the hero pilot who safely landed the plane in the Hudson River.  If you want to hear the dialogue between him and the air traffic controller click here http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/02/its-official-su.html.  Not only will you get the audio but there’s some video of the plane going in the water.  That captain is a true hero.  You’ll notice he keeps his cool the entire time.  Amazing.

Local Connection to Superbowl Commercial

Ok, so a lot of us watch the Superbowl to see the commercials.  I mentioned this on Friday and gave you a link to get a sneak preview of the Troy Polamalu commercial (if you saw the whole commercial it didn’t quite end up the way you thought it would, huh?).  Anyway, I found out that we have a local connection to one of the commercials.  The daughter of Cathy and Patrick Wyatt, who own Carpe Diem, was in the Hulu commercial with Alec Baldwin. She’s the one in the white lab coat with the black glasses.   If you missed it last night go to www.hulu.com and you can watch that commercial and all of the Superbowl commercials.   The Hulu commercial is good.  I also liked the one with Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, the Budweiser commercials, the one with all the wild animals (a rhino playing fetch anyone??) and the one with Conan O’Brien.  So what was your favorite?
