Young Ryan Seacrest

Yesterday I mentioned on my show that 'American Gladiators' was doing so well that it looks like it is getting a companion series called 'Gladiators 2000'.  It actually is a show that was on in the mid-90s.  And guess who was the host of the series??  Ryan Seacrest.  Now, this is pre-American Idol.  If you'd like to see what Ryan was like in the '90s go to this website http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/television/news/e3i29ce7ca58f3334d04e4e5a365212ed21. And if you'd like a preview of the show go to this website http://youtube.com/watch?v=5Wo7_8YoPNw.  Watch for 'Gladiators 2000' in the fall.

Classic MTV

I found a link where you can watch about 3 hours of classic MTV with Mark Goodman as the VJ!  I was watching some of it and I saw videos from Night Ranger and Huey Lewis.  Fun!  I remember watching MTV when I was in college and it was completely addicting.  I bet you'll find this is, too.   Check it out!  The 80s hair and fashion were cracking me up!  You'll laugh! Now, when you get to the website it's in a foreign language.  Just click on the video, sit back and enjoy!   http://www.appelogen.be/2008/01/25/3-uur-mtv-uit-1983/

Lost Preview

Have you been waiting with baited breath for 'Lost' to return?  Well, we are less than a week away now!  Don't forget it won't be on Wednesdays anymore.  It's going to be on Thursday nights.  If you'd like a preview of what to expect click on this website and check it out!  http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/detail/index.jsp?uuid=5d90c5ac-d403-494d-965f-f74f7b6b0ce1

I know I can't wait to find out what happens after the flash forward at the end of last season!  Of course, with the strike continuing we'll only have 8 episodes unless things get settled soon and even then there will be a slim possibility that we'll see any more episodes this season, but at least we get 8!

Moment of Truth

Ok, I ranted about this on my show today but I'm going to rant here, too.  Did you see 'Moment of Truth' last night on TV?  It's a new game show where the contestant is asked questions and has to answer them truthfully on camera to win money.  That all sounds well and good until you realize, first of all, these questions are incredibly personal and invasive, second, they've already answered these while hooked to a polygraph machine which is consulted each time they answer on camera and, third, they're answering these not only on television but also in front of their family and friends.  Last night as his wife was sitting in front of him, a contestant was asked if he'd postponed having children because he didn't really believe his wife was going to be with him long term.  And he answered yes.  The squirm factor in watching this is unbelievable!  This show was done in Columbia and in one episode there a woman admitted to hiring a hit man to kill her husband.  The series was cancelled after that episode.  I saw an interview with the executive producer and creator and he says "We're not out to destroy someone" (yeah, right, I watched it last night) "I don't think there's any joy in watching someone crumble under the lights. So, typically, the people that we cast to be contestants are stronger people.  They have good self-esteem and a strong sense of themselves."  I would certainly hope so!  So, did you watch it last night?  And if you did, are you going to tune in again?  I may, I may not, depending on how uncomfortable it gets.  The top prize you can win on this is $500,000.  You know, with the top prize being $1,000,000 on 'Survivor' and $10,000,000 on 'The Power of 10' is this really worth doing?  Last night, the first contestant ended up going home with no money at all.  I wonder what the long term consequences for him will be.

Cold Start to the Day!

When I came in to work this morning it was REALLY cold!  I didn't realize HOW cold until I got into the studio and had a chance to look at the temperature.  It was 13 degrees with a wind chill of -2!   That got me thinking about the people who went to the Green Bay game on Sunday night.  I can't imagine sitting in a stadium where the temperature is -1 and the wind chill is an incredible -24!!  That's just crazy!!  And the players on the field!  How did they deal with that???!!!  The linemen weren't even wearing sleeves under their jersey!  I wonder if any of them suffered any lasting effects of the cold after the game.  I guess I'm just a wimp.   I don't like to be cold and I could never handle an event like being at that game!  I have to say, I didn't see any guys with their shirts off all painted up in their team colors.   I can't remember seeing a game without some of those crazy guys but maybe a wind chill of -24 actually knocked some sense into them.  Anyway, kudos to those who dealt with that cold...you're tougher than I am!

Paula's New Song

Ok, you've heard that Paula Abdul is going to be performing at the Super Bowl, right?  This is her big comeback (and she needs it with her crazy behavior on American Idol and her wacky reality show).  Well, I've heard that she is going to be premeiring her new song that Randy Jackson produced and she may sing along with the recorded song at the Super Bowl.  I have a sneak peak at her new song.  Check it out and let me know what you think.

Some Links to Check Out

This is the time of year when we all start to realize we need to get back to the gym, or go on a diet, or just try to lead a healthier lifestyle.  In that vein, there's a trainer in Hollywood who has worked with celebrities to get them in shape who has some ideas on how you can get in shape with your pet.  Apparently, 35% of cats and dogs are considered obese and this trainer is hoping people will work out with their pet and everyone gets in shape.  If you'd like to check it out go to www.petfit.com

I also found out that Monopoly is getting a makeover again.  There are a lot of versions of Monopoly but this new one is looking for input from the public.  It's called Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition and if you go to www.monopoly.com you can vote on which cities make it on the board.  There are 6 cities to choose from in the U.S.  You can choose from Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C.  You can vote until February 28.  Then, starting February 29 you can start voting for wild-card cities.  Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition goes on sale in September (just in time for Christmas shopping!!).

Celebrity Apprentice

Are you watching Celebrity Apprentice?  Of course, I am.  There aren't many reality shows I'm not watching (although I do draw the line at some!).  Some of the 'celebrities' on the show are questionable.  I've never heard of Nely Galan or Jennie Finch and I really think calling Omarosa a celebrity is stretching it a bit!  But the standout celebrity of the group has been Gene Simmons.  That man is the most interesting person on the show and he just stands out.  He's a marketing genius but he comes off just a bit on the creepy side.  Last night he moved over to the women's team to lead it in a challenge for Kodak.  The women just faded into the background and were totally forgettable except when Carol Alt and Nely went to meet with the Kodak executives and Nely couldn't figure out how to shut up. I know editing exaggerates everything but it was hysterical to see the Kodak executives just glaze over and Nely took over and talked and talked and talked....On the guy's team only Stephen Baldwin and Piers Morgan (who's he by the way???) stood out.  The rest were just....there.  The guys won for the 3rd straight week and I thought going into the boardroom the only one safe would be Gene Simmons.  You can't fire the most interesting person on the show (sorry Donald, but Gene is considerably more interesting than you!).  Well, Gene made it impossible NOT to fire him.  It looked like it was coming down to Nely and Gene and you could tell Trump wanted to fire Nely.  But Gene refused to bring her back in.  Instead, he brought Omarosa and Jennie Finch back with him.  Now, I badly want Omarosa fired because I find her just plain annoying but I knew Trump wasn't going to do it.  He practically begged Gene to bring Nely back but Gene wouldn't.  So Gene Simmons was fired last night and there goes the majority of the reason to tune into the show.

Need a Laugh???

If you need a break and a giggle during your workday check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMH0bHeiRNgw and type in Evolution of Dance.  This guy is pretty darn good and he's hysterical!  I wonder how long it took him to figure it all out!  You may have seen it before but it's definitely worth another look and a laugh!  If anyone comes out where I'm broadcasting anytime and can do this I'll give you a cd!

New Technology for Grocery Stores

I saw an article today that talked about some new digital equipment that will be tested in grocery stores on the east coast this summer.  It's a cart-mounted console that helps you find products in the store.  You can also scan and pay for your items without waiting in the checkout line.  How great would that be???  It tells you where to find stuff and then you don't have to wait in a line to pay!  I love it!  When they test it this summer it will be at ShopRite stores and if you have a ShopRite loyalty card you'll be able to log onto their website at home and type in your grocery list.  Once you get to the store you swipe your card in the console and the list will appear.  As you pick up items you scan it on the console and it gives you a running tally and checks items off the shopping list.  You'll never forget to pick something up again!! I hope it works on the east coast this summer and then gets to our neck of the woods!  It sounds like a great way to save some time.
