Ok, did you watch ‘Wipeout’ last night? They’ve been running the promos for weeks! I had to tune in a check it out. I have to say it was absolutely hilarious! The commentators really made the show. They had such snarky comments and when someone would wipeout (which was everyone) they’d rewind it and show it in slow motion while they made fun of them. Some of the challenges are unbelievable! One is called ’sucker punch’ and contestants have to make it across a 2×4 along a wall without falling into the water while boxing gloves punch them randomly. Another one is called the ‘dizzy dummy’ and it made me sick to watch. I simply could NOT do it! The contestants are spun around quickly for about 20 seconds and then have to race each other across an obstacle course. One person moves on in each round and the remaining contestants have to repeat the challenge until 4 people qualify for the finals. Last night one contestant just plain quit in the final round of the ‘dizzy dummy’. I think he was afraid he was going to get sick. The other challenge that really had some wild wipeouts was the ’sweeper’ where contestants stood on poles towering above water and had to jump over a padded arm that swept around in a circle. As the challenge continues the arm goes higher and faster. There were some SERIOUS wipeouts on that one! And all this is just to get to the final obstacle course where they compete for $50,000. It was wild! Tune in next week and just be glad you’re not a part of it!
Following ‘Wipeout’ was ‘I Survived a Japanese Game Show’. That one was just a little weird. Contestants flew into L.A. thinking they were going to be on a reality show (which they are) and then were told they were jumping back onto a plane to fly to Tokyo. They moved into a house and then ‘took a tour’ of Tokyo and ended up on a game show. They were divided up into 2 teams and competed for the opportunity to stay in the house and continue on the reality show where they could win $250,000. The losers then had to, first of all, run a rickshaw company for 2 hours (which was pretty funny to watch them try to figure out how to operate a rickshaw) and then choose 2 teammates to face elimination. Those two had to dress up as bugs (complete with wings) and return to the Japanese gameshow and compete in another challenge to see who stays and who goes. Like I said, it was a bit weird. Did you watch it last night? If you did, did you think it was weird, too? And will you watch it again? I’m not sure I will. I might, depending on what’s on TV that night. Summer is a little bereft of good television.
