Gross Toys

There are some new toys coming out for Christmas this year and I think they’re kind of sick, but kind of funny, too.  They’re called Road Kill Teddies.  The first of the toys to be launched is Twitch the Raccoon which comes complete with its own body bag. He also has an identity tag revealing it was “run over by a milk float last Thursday….” and it has a zipper on each side of the toy that allows the owners to remove Twitch’s innards and stuff them back in again and it has a tire print that runs across its back.  Coming soon are other characters including Grind the rabbit, Splodge the hedgehog and Pop the weasel.  They’ll be on sale on line in mid-December at www.roadkilltoys.com.  I would not recommend you get these for small children.  Someone’s got a sick sense of humor!

Oh, something else I mentioned on-air…there are a lot of parties this time of year and if there’s one you feel obligated to go to but need an excuse to leave early I have an answer for you.  It’s www.PopularityDialer.com.  You can go to the site to schedule a free, recorded get-me-outta-here call from a cousin in need, boss or friend, among others.  You’ll get a call on your cell phone at the designated time with pauses for your end of the conversation.  And then you can be on your merry way to somewhere more interesting.

Have a great weekend and be careful since we’re supposed to get some nasty weather.  Go Louisville!!

One More Dancing Post

Ok, I’m sure you’re tired of  Dancing With the Stars but I just have a few more things to tell you about it.  First of all, if you’re broken up about Mel B. not winning you can get a memento from her as the Spice Girls are holding a contest to give away her false eyelashes from the show.  We may also be seeing more of her soon because since she’s had so much publicity lately she’s hoping to make the move into movies.  Of course, she’ll have to wait until after the writers’ strike is over.  And though we may be seeing more of Mel, we may be seeing less of Maks.  He’s thinking about leaving the show.  He already has some other projects lined up, including a show in Las Vegas.  Bummer.

Yesterday I mentioned how beat up the pro dancers were getting on the show.  Well, Mark Balas (Sabrina’s partner) was the latest casualty.  He had hurt his shoulder earlier and while he and Sabrina were dancing their cha-cha he hurt it again and had to be ambulanced to the hospital afterwards.  Apparently, he has a torn muscle in his shoulder which could put his and Sabrina’s appearance on the Dancing With the Stars tour in jeopardy.

**Sigh**

Well, Dancing With the Stars crowned another winner but this time it wasn’t who I was rooting for.  Oh, well…the last three winners’ were my picks so I was due to be disappointed.  Poor Maks!  He has to go through another season and hope to get another good dancer to have a chance at that lovely mirror ball trophy!  Did you watch the finale last night?  Wow, it was definitely packed with lots of stuff!!  Usually the previous competitors only come out and dance a few seconds but this time each was brought out and either danced or talked with Tom Bergeron.  I have a feeling they really wanted Sabrina to do a full dance and the only way to do that was to have them all dance a complete routine.  It was fun to see Cameron’s Superman paso doble again.  I think Tom and Samantha lost control of the show a few times last night!  It was pretty funny!  You know, we hear an awful lot about the aches and pains of the celebrities but some of the pro dancers were dancing through the pain, too.  Jonathon had a root canal last Monday and still danced with Marie that night!  Maks hurt his back practicing the freestyle and just lay on the dance floor after their mambo last night.  I thought he was hamming it up but I guess he was in some serious pain!  And Julianne has bronchitis and strep throat.  I’m sure Helio will be happy about that if he comes down with it! But if he does he can look at the trophy and feel better.   But these pros are pretty tough to dance through all that.  So what did you think?  Was the finale too jam packed?  And did you agree with the results?  And isn’t Tom Bergeron the best host on TV?  I think he’s hilarious!

Dancing With the Stars

So did you watch Dancing With the Stars last night?  We’re down to just 3…Mel B., Helio and Marie.  I have to say I was disappointed with the dancing last night.  The first dance each of them did was a style the judges decided upon.  I always like to see the freestyle dance.  First of all, it’s hyped like crazy throughout the competition.  Second, it’s interesting to see what the choreographers come up with for their partners.  Third, they can do lifts, which is always exciting.  I was very disappointed with Mel and Maks’ freestyle.  As Carrie Ann said last night to Mel, she’s better than that.  The lifts were great!  But the dance itself was boring.  And I thought it featured Maks too much.  Now, I love to watch Maks dance but this was supposed to show off Mel and she seemed to take a back seat to him, which we expect in the Paso Doble (scary how I’m learning these dances, huh?) but not in the freestyle.  Marie’s freestyle was just plain bizarre.  However, I didn’t hate it as much as the judges did.  I understand what she was doing but it was just weird.  Very risky which I give her credit for, but weird.  The crowd LOVED Helio’s freestyle but I wasn’t as on board for it.  It was good, but not outstanding.  I still think Mel SHOULD win.  She’s the best overall dancer.  Marie is lacking in technique and Helio is rather one-dimensional.  Mel is the most versatile.  BUT, we also know the final standings are not based as much on dance ability as it is in fan support.  So I won’t be surprised if Marie wins tonight.  But, as you very well know….I want Mel and Maks to win.  By the way, I heard Donny Osmond is insterested in being one of the contestants next season as is Celine Dion.  We’ll see what happens.

Useless Baby Shower Gifts

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a good Thanksgiving!  I did!!  No turkey for me, I got to eat ham…it was GREAT!  And we had cherry pie and chocolate pie instead of pumpkin and mincemeat so it was a good day for me!!  It’s always tough to come back to work after a long weekend.  Wow!  I really wanted to stay in bed for another couple of hours this morning…especially since it was raining.

Did you go out shopping Friday?  I didn’t want to fight the crowds so I stayed home but my sister, niece and brother-in-law did.  They said it was crowded but not obnoxiously so.

I mentioned today on the air that there was a survey on www.momlogic.com about the top 5 useless baby shower gifts.  The list was:

#5- frilly, expensive dress-up clothes
#4- tiny shoes/bottles
#3- too tiny receiving blankets
#2- wipes warmer
#1- bottle sterilizer

I asked some moms around the station if they agreed with this list and if there was anything they’d add.  They did agree with the list and added made up baskets, gift bags with lotion and powder and a silver spoon.  When I talked about this during my show today several listeners called in and disagreed with the list.  One person really liked the wipes warmer and another one made extensive use of the receiving blankets.  So my question to you is: Do YOU agree with the list and is there anything missing?

The Bachelor

I mentioned this today on my show about the TV show The Bachelor.  I don’t know how many seasons this show has been running but for some reason I keep watching.  I didn’t watch the first season and only saw the last episode of the second season but when Andrew Firestone was the bachelor I got hooked and have been hooked ever since.  Every time they promo the show Chris Harrison (the host) says “It’s the MOST DRAMATIC ROSE CEREMONY EVER!!”  Well, for once it almost lived up to the hype on Monday night.  It was the finale and the bachelor had to choose between the last two women, both of which had professed their love to him earlier in the show.  The first girl to show up at the rose ceremony is always the one he sends home and I correctly predicted which one it would be.  However, when the second girl showed up I expected the normal happy outcome.  That didn’t happen.  Halfway through his speech to her he walked away to gather himself, came back and told her he was sending her home, too, and wasn’t going to choose either one.  I did not see that coming at all!  Then last night, they had “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose” where the last two girls come back and the bachelor has to face them.  Normally, there’s one happy girl.  This time, of course, both of them were looking for answers.  I think the entire television audience was looking for answers and didn’t get any.  And we witnessed the most awkward conversation I think I’ve ever seen.  It was painful to watch.  The show also brought out the only two couples from the series who have stayed together.  It made the outcome of this season look that much worse.  Funny enough, there will be another edition of the show in the spring.  Actually, I shouldn’t be surprised since the writers’ strike shows no end in sight and we’ll be inundated with reality TV this winter.
I keep asking myself why I continue to watch the show but I can’t stop!!  I have yet to figure out why people go on this show honestly thinking they’re going to find the love of their life while they’re followed around with cameras 24/7 and all the dates are fabricated to make them look like the most romantic experiences ever.  They eventually have to come back down to earth and attempt to make the relationship work in the real world.  That would explain the terrible track record of these ‘couples’.  But if these people insist on making fools of themselves I guess we’re obligated to watch, huh?

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow and a good weekend!  Don’t eat too much!  I hope you can enjoy the holiday with family and friends!!  If you have to drive anywhere this weekend please be careful.

Crazy Browns Game!

I didn’t get a chance to  blog yesterday so I’m going to talk about the Browns game today.  I was driving to my sister’s house on the west side of Cleveland Sunday afternoon because we were celebrating my brother-in-law’s birthday.  I was listening to the game on the way up and getting frustrated because we lost the 13 point lead.  And  I thought….here we go AGAIN!!  Cleveland sports always seem to blow it at the end.  Then I was almost at my sister’s house and Phil Dawson attempts the long field goal kick with 3 seconds on the clock and I hear the announcer say the football bounced back into the field of play.  Then….the controversy.  Of course, I can’t see the play because I’m still in the car and I finally got to the house just as they ruled the field goal was good.  I ran in the house and, of course, the game was on so I finally got to see the replay.   And you know the rest of the story, Browns win!  What a game!  All I could think of was the Cardiac Kids from the early 80s.  It was exciting!  But I don’t know if my nerves can take many more games like that!  Of course, if we keep winning I’ll take a win any way I can.  It’s been a good year for Ohio sports between OSU going to the national championship last year, Cavs going to the NBA finals, Indians going to the ALCS, OSU beating Michigan this past weekend and the Brown’s possibly going to the playoffs for the first time in a lot of years.  Like I said, I’ll take a win any way I can.  Go Browns!!

Greatest TV Icons Top 50 List

I talked today about the fact that TV Land network and Entertainment Weekly magazine has compiled a list of “The 50 Greatest TV Icons”.  TV Land will have a 2 hour special Friday night about it and Entertainment Weekly covers it in their magazine this week.  I take issue with a few of them.  First of all, what’s Calista Flockhart doing on the list?  Seriously.  I was a fan of Ally McBeal but it was only on about 5 years and I wouldn’t call her an ‘icon’.  She’s #49 and comes in higher than  Larry Hagman.  Then Lassie is only at #46!  I think Lassie should be higher than that!  There were Lassie books, a TV show and TV movies about Lassie!  Anyway, here’s the list.  Check it out and let me know if you disagree with any of them and if there were any left off.

50. Larry Hagman
49. Calista Flockhart
48. Jimmy Smits
